Will Neocon Lies Cause Another War?
by James Buchanan

A recent opinion article notes “It’s both fascinating and dismaying watching the manufactured ‘crisis’ over Iran reach new intensity each week. Iran poses no real military threat to anyone, but listening to the Bush Administration or the US media one would think that Tehran was about to unleash a nuclear holocaust on the world. What we are seeing is a rerun of the administration’s massive propaganda offensive that led to the invasion of Iraq. There is also no doubt that the Bush Administration has been planning a major air war against Iran. The highly respected American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh even claims the Bush Administration is considering the use of tactical nuclear weapons against Iran’s underground nuclear facilities.”
What exactly did Iran do to become the target of this campaign of slander? Did Iran invade its neighboring countries? No. The Iran-Iraq War was started by the Iraqis (with secret US support and encouragement). The US has been the biggest threat to world peace in recent decades invading one nation after another ever since Bush Senior became president. Panama, Iraq, Serbia and Somalia have all been targets of US military aggression. The action in Somalia originally started out as a food distribution program, but it changed into an assassination mission against a warlord there, which led to the “Blackhawk Down” fiasco. We can’t even pass out food without getting into a firefight. Maybe we should just keep our military at home, where it belongs.
Most recently, the Bush regime has announced a planned test of 1.5 million pounds of explosives in the Nevada desert. The biggest bombload our Air Force can drop is 60,000 lbs. The 1.5 million pound explosion is the same size as a tactical nuke –such as the infamous “bunker buster bomb.” International treaties forbid further testing of nuclear weapons, which explains why this is being done. The neocons are serious about their insane plan to enlarge the war in the Middle East –the war which has cost the US 2,388 soldiers as of April 23rd and tens of thousands severely injured.
Iran is NOT making a nuclear bomb. Iran needs to enrich the percentage of uranium 235 to about 3.5 percent for use in its nuclear reactor. Iran not only has rich oil deposits; it also has uranium mines. It makes sense economically for them to make use of both of these natural resources. To create a nuclear bomb, the uranium needs to be enriched to the high 90s. It may even require a more complex process than centrifuges to achieve this, but these nuclear secrets are kept from the public. Virtually every time the controlled media in America mentions Iran enriching uranium, there is a mention of an atomic bomb. There are literally dozens of nations with nuclear reactors around the world, which enrich uranium. Curiously, the US media does not rant and rave about them. Their acquisition of nuclear power and uranium enrichment efforts did not even appear on page 10.
The simple truth is that the Israeli Lobby has a tremendous influence on our government and mass media. We are hearing only highly-biased reporting about Iran, which sounds not much different from any news source based in Tel Aviv. The Zionist neocons in our government want us to fight yet another war simply to soothe Israeli paranoia. The nation of Israel has an estimated 200 hydrogen bombs, which could wipe out all of Iran and much of Europe. The Israelis have held a club over the heads of their neighbors for several decades and they have committed atrocities, acts of war and black operations (such as the Lavon Affair and the attack on the USS Liberty) which should make them a pariah nation. Instead of ranting about Iran and threatening it with war every other day, our politicians should be making efforts to dismantle Israel’s massive nuclear arsenal before a bigger madman than the (thankfully comatose) Ariel Sharon becomes the next Israeli leader.
