Terror Threat Appears to Be All Talk
by James Buchanan

A few Americans have marveled at the timing of an announcement about a major terror attack, just a day after the biggest supporter of Bush’s Iraq War in the Democrat party, Joe Lieberman, was decisively defeated in his primary. Curiously a news article in the Seattle PI reports “When Vice President Cheney went out of his way Wednesday to blast Democrats as weak on terrorism, he knew something that few Americans knew: Another stark reminder of the dangers of terrorism was about to hit the headlines. The White House confirmed Thursday that senior administration officials have been aware since at least last weekend that British authorities were moving toward arrests in an alleged terrorism plot. Some of these top officials worked in concert with the Republican National Committee to blast Democrats after Tuesday’s primary defeat of Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, a supporter of President Bush’s Iraqi war strategy.”
So they’re admitting that the top neocons knew about this terror plot at least one week in advance —so the timing of the announcement was carefully selected to drown out the news about the primary defeat of a key neocon ally of Bush, Joe Lieberman.
According to early reports none of the plotters had any explosive liquids so they didn’t even have the means to carry out the attack. A terrorist attack several years ago on a Philippines airliner using explosive liquids did relatively little damage, killing only one passenger. So this huge media blitz about a terror attack “Bigger than 911″ involving “ten airplanes” failed to mention that it was probably all “talk” and that even if they had gotten some liquid explosives, detonating it would have been difficult (depending on which chemicals were used) and the damage would have been small.
The biggest effect is that millions and millions of travelers will be even more inconvenienced than they have been before. The neocons won’t be happy until every one of us peasants trying to travel by air is subjected to a full strip search, not allowed to carry any luggage and forced to fly wearing one of those paper surgical gowns.
