Looking Back at the Amnesty Bill
by Jeff Davis
A news article from a couple weeks ago when the Senate was attempting to sneak the amnesty bill through, mentioned some things that could use further discussion. It appears the Amnesty Bill was even more terrible and dangerous than we thought.
Breitbart reported on June 27th that “The Senate on Wednesday killed a Republican proposal to require all adult illegal immigrants to return home temporarily in order to qualify for permanent lawful status in this country. Also defeated was a Democratic bid to restrict legal status to those who have been in the United States for four years.”
While the “return to Mexico briefly” requirement was the sort of crazy thing, George Bush thought would fool people, even that symbolic restriction was removed. The four years residence made a little sense and might help keep out terrorists, but both of these were removed. This is the kind of thing that SHOULD have been bellowed from the rooftops. Instead, I don’t remember hearing about it at all, and I was paying attention.
Breitbart continues “The vote was 53-45 to table an amendment by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, to require that illegal immigrants go home within two years in order to qualify for a renewable Z visa to live and work lawfully in the United States. The bill, which could grant lawful status to as many as 12 million illegal immigrants, requires only heads of household seeking permanent legal residency to return home to apply for green cards.”
Once again the REAL number of illegals was 20 million according to an estimate by Bear-Stearns. Every time they throw out that 12 million number these politicians are saying “We think you’re too ignorant and simple-minded to know the real size of the problem.”
Note it took them only a couple of paragraphs to admit that the amendment would NOT in fact require “all adults” to go home. So only Juan would have to go back to Mexico for a bit. Rosalita and the original anchor baby and the 21 bambinos and cousin Carlos and brother Paco and auntie Esmerelda all would get to stay and draw their welfare and food stamps and take their kids to the emergency room for free and send them to be educated at taxpayer’s expense? That bill was a joke!
Breitbart notes: “Senators also voted 79-18 to kill a proposal by Democratic Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., that would have allowed only those who had been in the country for at least four years to gain lawful status. The bill [as it stood] would make anyone here by Jan. 1, 2007 eligible for legalization. Both amendments were designed to respond to conservatives who decry President Bush’s immigration bill as a form of amnesty.”
But what else on earth COULD you call it? Even these mild measures to control the endless Mexican invasion were not offered in good faith. The same article continues “Without her amendment, Hutchison said shortly before the vote, ‘the amnesty tag that has been put on this bill will remain. It is the key issue in the bill for the American people.’ Webb said his proposal would raise the public’s comfort level with granting lawful status to illegal immigrants.”
In other words, they were putting some lipstick on a pig that they knew perfectly well the American people didn’t want, putting in provisions that they had not the slightest intention of enforcing. Just as they refused to build the Congressionally-mandated fence that the Republicans tossed out as an election ploy in November 2006.
We simply CANNOT TRUST OUR LEADERS. We need a massive radical change in government or else we have to watch them like a group of gypsies in a jewelry store. We truly need to elect someone like Ron Paul as President so that we have one branch of government, we can rely on. Our Bill of Rights isn’t going to come back on its own. We need a real patriot for president, who will work to repair the damage done by the neocons.
