South Carolina Fines Unregistered Terrorists

Forget the War on Terror. The great state of South Carolina has discovered a solution. Make the terrorists register! According to the [1] Raw Story web site: “Terrorists who want to overthrow the United States government must now register with South Carolina’s Secretary of State and declare their intentions — or face a $25,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison. The state’s ‘Subversive Activities Registration Act,’ passed last year and now officially on the books, states that ‘every member of a subversive organization, or an organization subject to foreign control, every foreign agent and every person who advocates, teaches, advises or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States … shall register with the Secretary of State.’ There’s even a $5 filing fee.”
This is what these pinheads, who are produced by the two-party system come up with. Whenever I see something like this, I get the impression our government is too stupid to fight a war on terrorism. Notice that our Congress never even tried to seal off the Mexican border after the 911 attack. It’s still as leaky as ever. And we’re still allowing Muslim students from Egypt and Saudi Arabia to attend our major universities. It’s as if we’ve learned nothing. We literally would be better off with a neutral foreign policy, not antagonizing anyone since we clearly don’t know how to shut our borders and protect ourselves from potential threats from the Third World. (And then there’s the more important issue of whether or not al Qaeda is real or if it’s a creation of the CIA and MOSSAD.)
The [2] article notes “By subversive organization, the law means ‘every corporation, society, association, camp, group, bund, political party, assembly, body or organization, composed of two or more persons, which directly or indirectly advocates, advises, teaches or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States [or] of this State.’ The law also gives subversive organizations subject to foreign control 30 days to register with the state after setting up shop in South Carolina. While the intention of the law is apparently aimed at Islamic terrorists, it’s unclear in the law’s wording whether it can be applied to right-wing militias, some of whom have reputedly called for the overthrow of the US government. The law states that fraternal and patriotic groups are exempt from the law, but only if they don’t contemplate the overthrow of the government.”
I wonder if the great South Carolina patriots and fathers of the secession movement in 1861, like John C. Calhoun and Edmund C. Ruffin, would have been forced to register under this law or if they would have gotten ten years in jail for rebelling against federal tyranny.
Of course, this new law also gives the corrupt state bureaucracy and law enforcement a weapon to use against anyone they happen to dislike. Just accuse them of “subversion” and send them to prison for ten years for failing to register.
The Roman philosopher and statesman Cicero said “The existence of many laws is the sign of a corrupt society.” By that standard, the United States is the most corrupt society in history. But we knew that already, didn’t we?
