Global Cooling?

It’s happening again. This is turning into a science column. But I say again, there are scientific and technological issues that do in fact have serious political and racial relevance. We’ve been besieged with Global Warming propaganda for years now. We’ve been told countless times that man is to blame for increased CO2 production, which some scientists insist is responsible for increasing temperatures. Well, what if the global temperature suddenly dropped –before all the proposed CO2 restrictions even got started?
An article in the Seattle Times reports that “Seattle weather: Colder than Siberia (for the month of June so far)… It doesn’t seem fair, but it’s the cold, hard truth — accent on cold… even the Siberian city of Tomsk, Russia, hit the 70s last weekend. Meanwhile, shivering Seattle residents, hearing about snowplows back at work on Snoqualmie Pass this week, probably have only dim memories of …the last time the mercury crept into the 70s here… On Tuesday, state highway workers clearing away the last of 7 inches of snow on Interstate 90 could remember only two other times in the past 30 years that snowplows have been called out this late in the year.”
Seattle (or the Northwest in general) isn’t the only place freezing. Channel 9 News in Aspen, Colorado reports that “Skiers who are still are not ready for summer to start will get another chance to take to the slopes this weekend. The Aspen Skiing Company said Monday that it will open up Aspen Mountain from June 13 to 15 for skiers and snowboarders… The company says record winter snowfall has left the mountain covered with snow, leaving behind an average of more than 3 feet of snow on the upper slopes. So, for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aspen will open seven runs and about 45 acres of mostly intermediate terrain….”
Now wait a minute? Aren’t we supposed to be “suffering” from Global Warming? So what’s all this business about record cold temperatures, snow ploughs and skiing in June? Why, in a part of the Northwest that usually sees almost no actual snowfall even in winter, did Seattle have its latest snowfall ever on April 19th of this year? Explain to me again, O mighty Al Gore, exactly why and how this indicates that the earth really is warming up like you say. I didn’t quite catch your last long, abstruse and increasingly stammering explanation.
The Daily Tech website reports a “Twelve-month long drop in world temperatures wipes out a century of warming… Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile — the list goes on and on. No more than anecdotal evidence, to be sure. But now, that evidence has been supplanted by hard scientific fact. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA’s GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.”
Could it be that Al Gore’s truth is not “inconvenient” after all, but just plain WRONG?
Could it be that while the earth had admittedly been in a warming cycle, the pendulum has now swung back towards cooling, as it often does with natural phenomena that we don’t understand, and usually don’t pretend to understand unless we’re following a pre-set socialist political agenda which is nothing more than a thinly-veiled power grab and “club” to extort political donations from big corporations? For example: if Big Corporation X doesn’t donate several million to the Democrat Party and some Global Warming “research” group, then they get hit with CO2 restrictions that will put them out of business.
Is anyone besides me old enough to remember back in the 1970s when scientists and Newsweek magazine were predicting another ice age? I will admit that these environmentalist global warming hucksters almost had me convinced there for a while. I never considered global warming to be the earth-shaking disaster it was cracked up to be. I always thought the earth and the people on it were versatile enough to handle an extra degree or two. But now it looks like maybe I should have been more skeptical. Looking out my window at a Seattle snow shower in April tends to make one rethink things.
Well, now maybe the ice caps will come back and all the nice soft furry polar bears won’t drown, to the relief of northern Canadians. The polar bears weren’t drowning, by the way, they were migrating to land and stomping through ranches and little towns in Canada, and causing some headaches to the locals.
How long now until Al Gore and his buddies completely backtrack and start screaming that we need socialism to combat global cooling? If all these leftist scientists were dead certain that man-made CO2 was warming the earth, then how do they explain the sudden cooling? Did all the factories shut down over the last year? Or maybe the sun is putting out a little less energy as it goes through a cycle that we don’t understand and can’t do anything about.
