Foley Makes a Desperate Dash for Victimhood

I have to hand it to former House Representative Mark Foley, R-Fla. He’s a creep and a pervert, but he’s a smart perv. Foley continues to use every slimy trick in the book to dodge responsibility for his actions. Most recently Congressman Foley claimed that -as a boy- a Catholic priest molested him. (Rumor has it, the Catholic priest claims that -as a boy- a creepy Republican Congressman molested him.)
If one does get caught with one’s pants down in an inexcusable situation, then take a lesson from Foley’s book on how to bob and weave and throw sand and smoke in everyone’s eyes to obscure the facts of the case. The first smart thing Foley did was to flee into rehab immediately after the scandal broke, thereby gaining immediate shielding against nosy media and cops, and in some states, at least some immunity from arrest. He thus left his former house colleagues, especially Speaker Dennis Hastert, holding a very smelly bag that they do not wish to hold.
He has been counting on them to bury the scandal as quickly as possible, and he has shown them that he is willing to play ball, lie low, and stay out of their way. He is also using the breathing space he gained while crouching in rehab to construct a daring and outrageous defense, one based on the concept that the best defense is a good offense. Since Foley doesn’t dare go on the offensive against the young men he propositioned, and because above all else he wants to draw attention away from those filthy e-mails and instant messages, he has decided to blame the whole thing on…THE CATHOLIC CHURCH!
Yessirree Bob. The problem with Mark Foley is not that he’s a pervert who chooses to live beyond the bounds of human decency, no, not at all. It’s all those little-boy piddling priests!!
Foley has accused a priest who is a foreigner and who is outside the United States legal jurisdiction, and very likely will never be examined by American courts or police. Brilliant! The priest who lives on the island of Malta admits having been naked with the boy in a sauna. Given the tainted image of the Church today, the priest might as well have confessed to child-molesting than say that. The Maltese ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait until Nancy Grace shows up on their island like she did on Aruba to pester the cops and possibly compromise the investigation beyond repair.
Even if Foley were molested as a boy, that does not excuse HIS ACTIONS with underage pages. Foley is trying to make room for himself to hop on the bandwagon to join the long-standing lefty-liberal-PC war against Catholicism, the brand of Christianity most hated by feminists, fruits and neo-Marxists for its persistent refusal to “modernize” (which means accept sexual perversion as some kind of “normal and acceptable” behavior for Christians, which it isn’t). Foley is reaching out for the Politically Correct world’s imprimatur of “victimhood” in order to change the subject and draw attention away from the way he victimized teenaged pages in the halls of Congress and elsewhere. And you know something? In today’s morally deranged, Politically Correct society, he may just get away with it.
