Everybody Hates Alberto

Alberto Gonzales

Apparently nobody likes Bush’s little Latino buddy, Alberto Gonzales. A recent news article reports “Desperate for support among fellow Republicans, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales faced grim prospects Friday after a bruising Senate hearing that produced one outright call for resignation and a fistful of invitations and hints to quit… In several hours before the Judiciary Committee on Thursday, Gonzales said he had done nothing improper in firing the eight prosecutors, but conceded the case had been badly handled. At the same time, he said 71 times that he either could not recall or did not remember conversations or events surrounding the dismissals… (Republican) Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma called for Gonzales to resign. Several other Republicans made plain their unhappiness.”

Alberto Gonzales’ most famous “contribution” to American society is legalizing torture. As we absorb more non-Whites into high positions in our government then we start adopting torture, murder and oppression which is typical of Third World countries. Alberto Gonzales has admitted that his grandparents may have been illegal aliens. Is it any wonder that Gonzales doesn’t respect our Constitution when his ancestors didn’t respect our nation’s borders?

The outrages by Gonzales should be a “warning shot” for all patriots. Secret prisons and torture should be part of a movie, not part of our reality. Right from the start, this Mexican has ignored the highest law of the land. It seems glaringly obvious that Gonzales neither appreciates nor respects our Bill of Rights. How rapidly would America start turning into a Latino dictatorship like the police state in Chile or the Communist regime that ruled Nicaragua? How long until Americans start “disappearing” (i.e. getting murdered for their political beliefs and secretly buried) just like what happened in Chile?

Unfortunately, we are already pretty far down the road to becoming a Third World dictatorship. There are secret prisons run by the CIA around the world allegedly for “terrorists” but we all know that the definition of “terrorist” will someday change to include political dissidents. Recent laws passed supposedly to “fight terror” are much more effective at fighting the Bill of Rights. There is more government surveillance of private conversations now than at anytime in the past. While this may not seem like a big thing to many Americans, it’s only a matter of time until information gleaned by government surveillance starts being used to help the IRS collect more taxes. Anything you say on your cell phone, will turn up to haunt you. Protections which have existed since the Magna Carta have been erased. You may never get your day in court. Instead you could be sitting in a Guantanamo Bay prison, falsely accused, but unable to contact your lawyer and unable to resolve your situation in a “fast and speedy” manner as guaranteed by the Constitution. (As if our current court system is capable of resolving anything in a fast and speedy manner.)

Of course Bush isn’t much better than Gonzales. Bush calls the Constitution a “G-d damned piece of paper” and wants to give amnesty to 20 million illegals. Bush had to be a pretty defective leader in the first place to pick someone like Alberto Gonzales to be Attorney General, not to mention picking Mike Brown to run FEMA or choosing Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court.

Most patriots would like to see Alberto Gonzales go down in flames over his approval of torture. Our political system however moves in mysterious ways and it appears as though the scandal most likely to sink him involves the firing of eight federal prosecutors. While this is not an ideal way to get rid of Gonzales, it’s definitely better than leaving him in office.
