Duke LaCrosse Prosecutor Michael Nifong Is Disbarred

A day after the prosecutor in the Duke LaCrosse case resigned Michael Nifong has been disbarred for unethical conduct.
The Duke Lacrosse Rape Case has been likened to “the white version of the Scottsboro Boys”, an infamous case of the 1930s in which a gang of black rapists who violated a white woman were eventually freed from prison and escaped punishment due to the organized liberal sob sisters of the time, as well as the efforts of the American Communist Party. There is a crucial difference, though: the Scottsboro rapists were guilty, and the three “whites” accused (one is a Jew) in Durham were innocent.
The politically ambitious and completely unscrupulous Durham County, N.C. District Attorney, Michael Nifong, pushed the case against the LaCrosse players even though it was obvious from the start that there was no basis for a case. WRAL-TV in Raleigh reports that “Mike Nifong acknowledged inconsistencies in an exotic dancer’s story that she was raped, beaten and sexually assaulted at a Duke lacrosse team party but decided to move forward with the case anyway, the lead investigator on the case testified Tuesday. During an initial meeting at Nifong’s office, (black) Investigator Benjamin Himan said, he and his supervisor met with the district attorney to review the evidence and status of the case and that Nifong made a comment to the effect, ‘You know we’re f****d.’” (Meaning the highly-publicized case had no merit.) This was in the very early stages of the “case,” which Nifong then dragged out for over a year after tossing off this casual comment to the lead detective.
According to WRAL, “Nifong also insisted pressing ahead on indicting lacrosse player Reade Seligmann, even though detectives could not place him at the party at the time of the alleged incident, he testified. ‘We didn’t have any DNA. We didn’t have him at the party,’ Himan said of Seligmann. ‘It’ was a big concern to me to go for an indictment when we did not even know where he was — if he was even there.’” Not enough of a concern, apparently, for Himan to resign from the case or alert any of Nifong’s higher-ups in the State Attorney General’s Office as to what was going on.
It turned out that Nifong’s obsessive pursuit of Reade Seligmann was to prove his undoing. Seligmann’s wealthy Jewish parents had plenty of money to hire lawyers, and it was the “dream team” put together with the Seligmann family’s money who eventually got the charges dropped in the face of prosecutorial resistance amounting almost to insanity. If these three kids had been poor white working class youths and if they’d had to rely on legal aid, today they would be rotting in Raleigh’s horrific Central Prison.
WRAL continues: “Wrapping up more than three hours of testimony in which North Carolina State Bar prosecutors questioned him on every aspect of the investigation, Himan said he agreed with Attorney General Roy Cooper’s decision to dismiss charges against Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and David Evans. ‘Through interviews, it was a fact that Crystal (the accusing black stripper) was lying,’ he said ‘Every time she was questioned on something, she improvised it. … I don’t know exactly what happened at that house, but I don’t believe a sexual assault occurred.’”
What happened at the house was that some drunk LaCrosse players verbally abused one of the strippers, who decided to retaliate with a rape charge. The other stripper testified that she was within sight of the accuser for all but a couple minutes, far too short a time for the alleged assault, and there was nothing unusual apparent after that brief period of time. Don’t hold your breath for the accuser to be charged with perjury or making a false police report.
Sounds like the black detective Himan blew the whistle on Nifong to save his own sorry hide. No one at the hearing appears to have been rude enough to inquire of Himan why he didn’t do something to act on his belief that the boys were innocent AT THE START of this witch hunt. Instead he went along with Nifong while he put them through a year of hell while sitting on evidence that would exonerate them.
These boys were just ordinary college students who fell victim to a prosecutor, who came up with a politically correct prosecution based on the word of a stripper. The same exact thing could happen in hundreds of other colleges all over America. These boys didn’t even get a chance to graduate from college before being victimized by a PC vendetta. We need to take our country back from the likes of Michael Nifong, and create a society where people can attend college, go to work and live their lives without a lying scoundrel filing false charges against them.
