The last Presidential debate for 2008 seemed to focus largely on ex-terrorist Bill Ayers, taxes and Joe-the-plumber. Only hours before the debate the Stock Market lost 733 points, erasing most of Monday’s 938 point rebound. You’d think McCain would have made a major effort to tell voters that the current subprime mess resulted from federal regulators carrying out liberal policies and pressuring banks to make millions of subprime loans to minorities with no down payments. McCain did mention this during the second debate and some Republican commercials are mentioning this, but McCain missed a big opportunity to remind voters he co-sponsored a bill to put controls on subprime loans in 2005 while Obama actually worked with ACORN to increase the number of subprime loans.

A transcript of the debate quotes McCain as saying “The fact is that businesses in America today are paying the second highest tax rate of anywhere in the world. Our tax rate for business in America is 35 percent. Ireland, it’s 11 percent. Where are companies going to go where they can create jobs and where they can do best in business? We need to cut the business tax rate in America. We need to encourage business.”

During the debate, Obama flatly denied the claim that he started his political career in the living room of ex-terrorist William Ayers’ home. Obama also said that Ayers’ terrorist past took place 40 years ago when he was only 8 years old.
