One Political Pundit Weighs in on Ron Paul’s Alabama Victory

by James Buchanan

Great American Ron Paul

A political pundit on the appropriately-named website outsidethebeltway.com noted that “Despite all the attention paid to the meaningless Ames, Iowa straw poll, there has been almost zero coverage of the fact that Ron Paul dominated the Alabama straw poll Saturday, absolutely demolishing the competition:

(Alabama Straw Poll Results)
Paul 216 (81%)
Romney 14
Hunter 10
Thompson 9
Giuliani 7
Huckabee 6
McCain 2
Brownback 2
Tancredo 0
Cox 0

This is a stunning setback for Mike Huckabee…”

The Ron Paul victory in Alabama is a stunning setback for Romney, Giuliani and Fred Thompson too. Why is it that out of all the hundreds of political writers and pundits on the Cable News shows and major news networks, only one political writer has bothered to comment on the glaringly obvious mass-appeal of Ron Paul??? Mainstream Media Censors Ron Paul Victories

Enthusiatic Ron Paul Supporters

You would think a news story about an underdog candidate who suddenly pulls ahead of the field would automatically be the lead story on the news… or maybe the lead story in the political section… or at least appear as a story in the political section. Well, that sort of story would be a headline news event if our news media were impartial. The mainstream media in America is anything, but impartial. The mainstream media is joined at the hip with the neocons, who lied us into the Iraq War. The mainstream media wants a neocon candidate such as Giuliani, McCain or Fred Thompson to win the Republican primary and they will slant the news coverage to favor the neocons.

A candidate, who calls for an end to the Iraq War, warrantless wiretaps, torture, secret prisons and other neocon policies (as Ron Paul has done), won’t get any positive news coverage from the mainstream media.

Does Ron Paul really need the mainstream media? If Paul could get two landslide victories in Alabama and New Hampshire without mainstream media help, maybe he doesn’t need them. 85 percent of Americans regularly spend time on the Internet. It’s a different world now. People are finding out about Ron Paul DESPITE the mainstream media. When the media fails to report on Ron Paul and he becomes more successful anyway, they are demonstrating how irrelevant and mistrusted, they’ve become. (more…)

Ron Paul Gets 81% in Alabama 73% in NH Straw Polls

Ron Paul Translates his Online Support to the Straw Polls

by James Buchanan

Great American Ron Paul

In two stunning victories, Ron Poll has received 81 percent of the vote in the Alabama Straw Poll and 73 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire Straw Poll. These straw polls are intended to determine how strong a Republican candidate is among ordinary Republican voters. Both the Alabama and New Hampshire straw polls allowed ordinary registered Republicans to vote.

These tremendous victories come on the heels of a strong showing in the Iowa Straw Poll, where Ron Paul went from near total obscurity to over nine percent of the vote, placing him in the top five. Paul followed up his strong showing in Iowa with an even stronger showing in Illinois, scoring 19 percent of the vote, finishing just one percent behind second place Fred Thompson.

Early in the primary, Ron Paul was getting 60 to 80+ percent in a variety of online Internet polls. A few media pundits mentioned this bizarre split between the online world and reality, which appears to have been finally bridged this week!! In a way, this all makes sense. People voting in online polls are most likely much better informed than ordinary Americans. Similarly, the Republicans voting in these straw polls are better motivated and better informed also. Once Ron Paul proved that he can place in the top tier in Iowa and Illinois, the floodgates were opened for people to vote for him. They were no longer “throwing their vote away” by voting for the candidate, whom they knew was the best man in the race. (more…)

GOP Straw Polls in Indiana and New Hampshire on August 18th

Anyone in Indiana or New Hampshire: Here’s something important to do Saturday!!!!

by James Buchanan

Enthusiatic Ron Paul Supporters

Please excuse the very short notice, but the next Republican Straw Polls are on August 18th in Indiana and New Hampshire. In Indiana, Ron Paul needs activists to hold a rally at this event to impress state delegates who will be attending. A good turn out should impress the delegates and convince many that voting for Paul is the will of the people.

One web site notes: “Tippecanoe County Republican Chairman Bob Hicks said by the time Indiana votes in May, the candidates have usually been decided. So, this month county republicans will hold a straw poll convention to allow Tippecanoe county residents to voice their selection.

Hicks said the straw poll is an unofficial opinion survey. ‘This will just be an indication of what Tippecanoe county thinks about who might be the best presidential candidate for a very important 2008 presidential election,’ Hicks said.

Republicans have registered 250 county delegates to vote on the GOP candidates. Anyone can attend the straw poll convention to watch and learn how the process works. It will be Satuday August 18 from 10:00a.m.- 1:00 p.m. at Wea Ridge Middle School.”

The New Hampshire straw poll is also on August 18th. (more…)

Ron Paul Scores 19 Percent in Illinois Straw Poll

Ron Paul Has Repeatedly Proven himself a Major Candidate

by James Buchanan

Great American Ron Paul

Ron Paul just scored 19 percent in the Illinois Straw Poll despite a continuing media black out, which is growing more obvious every day. Paul placed in the top three –only one percent behind former TV star, Fred Thompson with Mitt Moneybags Romney placing first –although once again with less than a majority.

This strong finish by Ron Paul comes at a key time. The top five people in last week’s Iowa straw poll included Ron Paul, Romney, Brownback, Huckabee and Tancredo. Three candidates, Brownback, Huckabee and Tancredo had made a HUGE effort in Iowa spending much of their campaign funds and 66 or more days in that state. All three were hoping a good finish in Iowa would give them some momentum, but the Illinois Straw Poll suggests that they have fallen flat. Huckabee scored only 3 percent in Illinois. Brownback had 1.1 percent, and Tom Tancredo had an embarrassingly bad 0.3 percent.

The neocon favorites Rudy Giuliani and John McCain scored only one percent each in the Iowa Straw Poll. In Illinois, Giuliani finished behind Ron Paul with 11.6 percent, and McCain had a pathetic 4.1 percent. If it weren’t for the endless praise lavished on them by the mainstream media, McCain and Giuliani would have quit the race by now. (more…)

Ron Paul’s Clever Tactics in Iowa

by Charles Coughlin

A recent article on the Iowa Straw Poll reports “The online organizational efforts of Texas Congressman and presidential hopeful Ron Paul appears to have paid off this week-end at the Ames, Iowa straw poll. Media reports, the campaign itself, supporters and self-styled pundits all noted both the turnout at the festivities on Saturday as well as his relatively strong showing against his rivals. A Wall Street Journal… analysis of the poll results called Paul’s fifth placement ‘impressive’ ….Other reporters on the trail noted throughout the week-end that the fairground was covered in Ron Paul signs. And one excerpted post on a libertarian-leaning Web site notes: ‘Lastly, Ron Paul, though fifth, showed that he was able to translate his Internet support into votes on the ground in a difficult environment with little name recognition. That he received approximately 500 more votes than his campaign gave away tickets while only spending a week or two in the state indicates he may be the only Republican candidate that can truthfully claim grassroots support (the Paul campaign only opened their official Iowa headquarters this past Friday.)’ ”

The Iowa Straw Poll is the first Republican event with a large number of voters. Some candidates make an exhaustive effort spending a fortune and an inordinate amount of time in Iowa with each candidate trying to prove his popularity. Critics of the event complain that the Iowa Straw Poll is more of a test of a candidate’s wallet since the $35 ticket price to vote makes the event highly exclusionary. The top four candidates reportedly bought all the tickets for their supporters while Ron Paul only bought some of his supporters tickets. The rich candidates provided free bus rides to bring supporters to Ames, Iowa and at least one candidate was buying motel rooms for his supporters. The Romney supporters even had golf carts giving supporters free rides from the parking lot to the event. (more…)

Pentagon Draft Denial Lacks Credibility

US Coffins

According to Breitbart news: “The Pentagon sharply rejected Monday a key general’s assertion that a return to the military draft has always been an option on the table and should be considered. ‘I can tell you emphatically that there is absolutely no consideration being given to re instituting the draft,’ said Bryan Whitman, a Pentagon spokesman. ‘The all-volunteer force has surpassed all expectations of its founders.’”

There’s a problem with that statement: IT ISN’T TRUE, and it’s not likely that this spokesman believes it either. Sounds like he’s just being a good soldier and following orders. A whole trainload of senior officers, both retired and active duty, as well as numerous politicians and commentators have characterized the United States Army as “broken” and “scraping the bottom of the barrel.” (more…)

Rove Runs for Cover

Bush’s top adviser deserts troubled ship… or does he?

by Jeff Davis

How Rove should have left D.C.

A news article in the Wall Street Journal reports “Karl Rove, President Bush’s longtime political adviser, is resigning as White House deputy chief of staff effective Aug. 31, and returning to Texas, marking a turning point for the Bush presidency. Mr. Rove’s departure removes one of the White House’s most polarizing figures, and perhaps signals the effective end of the lame duck administration’s role in shaping major domestic policy decisions, where the former Texas political consultant was a driving force. Mr. Rove revealed his plans in an interview with Paul Gigot, editor of The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page.”

It is of course pure coincidence that the Wall Street Journal was just purchased by neocon media magnate Rupert Murdoch, who also owns the official government news agency, Fox News.

The same article continues “President Bush made a formal announcement Monday morning. ‘Karl Rove is moving on down the road,’ Mr. Bush said, appearing grim-faced on the White House’s South Lawn with Mr. Rove at his side. “We’ve been friends for a long time and we’re still going to be friends… I’ll be on the road behind you here in a bit,’ he said.” (more…)

A Free Press or a Ministry of Truth?

by Paul Craig Roberts

Big Brother is watching you

In his novel 1984, George Orwell portrayed a future time in which the explanations of recent events and earlier history are continually changed to meet Big Brother’s latest purpose. Previous explanations disappear down “the memory hole.”

Sound familiar? Any American who pays attention can observe the identical phenomenon occurring in the U.S. today.

Think about the Bush regime’s changing explanations for the failed U.S. occupation of Iraq. Shortly after Bush’s May 2003 announcement of “mission accomplished,” the mission revealed itself to be very much unaccomplished. Americans were told that the cause of the snafu was a small Sunni insurgency of two or three thousand at the most inspired by “die-hard Ba’ath Party remnants.” Remember the propagandistic deck of cards identifying the most wanted down to the less wanted? Americans were assured that once Saddam Hussein and his relatives and henchmen were rounded up, our troops would be pelted with the promised flowers instead of roadside bombs.

When the roundups, trials, and executions failed to fix the problem, the “die-hard” explanation disappeared. A new explanation, with no continuity to the old, took its place. (more…)

Ron Paul Scores Over Nine Percent in Iowa

Paul decisively breaks out of “one to two” percent zone

by James Buchanan

Ron Paul

Ron Paul just scored over nine percent in the Iowa straw poll –the first Republican event with a large number of voters. The winner of the straw poll, Mitt Romney scored 32 percent, suggesting that Republicans haven’t yet found a candidate, whom a majority will support. The Iowa primary will be held in January. Ron Paul’s decent showing should finally put him on the radar screen for Republican voters.

Paul has been battling a news black out by the mainstream media, who have previously dismissed him as “insignificant” with only one or two percent support. Ron Paul has built up a huge following on the Internet and has the greatest momentum of all the candidates. The mainstream media will either have to start giving Ron Paul some news coverage now or they’ll have to invent a new excuse to keep ignoring him.

The Iowa straw poll requires a $35 entry fee from each Iowa resident who wishes to vote. Ron Paul’s campaign raised enough for 500 tickets, but most of his 1,305 supporters had to buy their own tickets. Brownback, Romney and other candidates were buying tickets for all their supporters. The Iowa straw poll is therefore heavily slanted to the richest candidates. Also at $3 per gallon for gas, even the trip to Ames, Iowa is a bit expensive for many people, which is why some candidates bused in supporters from other towns. (more…)
