Oakland Secedes from the Union

Hippy (as found in Oakland)

The immigration issue is getting increasingly bizarre and convoluted, as more and more local governments are getting in on the act in the absence of decisive Federal action of any kind. Many localities around the country have decided actually to make some attempt to ENFORCE THE LAW OF THE LAND against Third World aliens, by making it illegal for landlords to rent to them and also penalizing capitalists and corporations who employ them. Of course these counties and municipalities have immediately found themselves the target of malicious “civil rights” lawsuits from the ACLU and from Hispanic pressure groups. That’s right, people who are here unlawfully are actually suing native-born American citizens because they are enforcing this country’s laws–and winning.

Several “blue” cities controlled by the liberal wing of the Democratic Party have actually gone the opposite way and publicly refused to enforce the law or to co-operate with ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, which replaced INS post-9/11.) The latest “blue” city thus to secede from the Union is the notorious “black spot” of Oakland, California.

According to a recent news article “Oakland city officials today announced two new resolutions condemning recent federal immigration raids and formalizing the city’s intention not to cooperate with the U.S. government effort to deport undocumented residents. The resolutions, one by [black] Mayor Ron Dellums and the other by [Mexican] Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, both condemn the recent raids, which included one on Friday at an East Oakland manufacturer. Both resolutions are also an effort to update Oakland’s 1986 ‘City of Refuge’ ordinance which only applies to refugees fleeing political violence in Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua and South Africa, De La Fuente said. His proposed ordinance would give refuge to any undocumented immigrant regardless of national origin. The council president, Dellums, [black] Police Chief Wayne Tucker, [Asian] City Councilwomen Jean Quan and Jane Brunner, and other city officials appeared at a City Hall news conference to support both resolutions.” (more…)
