Bush’s “Great” Iraq Plan: Boosting the Troop Strength
by Jeff Davis

We all knew that Bush was going to blow off his daddy’s “Wise Men” and their Iraq Study Group Report, but no one predicted how quickly this would be done. It is now clear that the President intends to ignore the report, as mild and half-hearted as it is. The report is already on the shelf gathering dust. The media has now leaked Bush’s Grand Plan for fixing the mess in Iraq; a “troop surge.” In Vietnam it used to be called “escalation.” It didn’t work in ‘Nam and it won’t work in Iraq. A few hundred more young soldiers will die and a few thousand more will have an arm or leg blown off because our mentally challenged commander in chief feels like making them pay for his mistakes.
Nor are the Democrats going to lift a finger to stop Bush. The incoming “Class of ‘07″ are turning out to be just as spineless as their predecessors. According to a recent news media article, “Incoming Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Sunday he would support a temporary troop increase in Iraq only if it were part of a broader strategy to bring combat forces home by early 2008….President Bush is considering several options for a new strategy in Iraq, such as a proposal backed by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., that would send tens of thousands of additional troops for an indefinite period to quickly secure Baghdad. There are about 134,000 U.S. troops in Iraq now..That plan would run counter to recommendations by the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, which set a goal of withdrawing combat troops by early 2008 in support of more aggressive regional diplomacy.” (more…)
