Terrorism Still Thriving, State Department Says

Cheney and his handiwork

Four years into the “global war on terror,” terrorism appears to be thriving, according to the 2005 edition of the annual “Country Reports on Terrorism” released here Friday by the U.S. State Department.

While the control and reach of al Qaeda, which carried out the spectacular Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on New York and the Pentagon, have weakened over the past four years, smaller autonomous groups and individuals that are “extremely difficult to detect or counter” have increasingly moved into the vacuum, according to the 265-page report.

And while its ability to mount “global acts of terrorism” has diminished, “AQ and its affiliates political will has not been undermined” and it remains the most prominent terrorist threat to the United States and its allies, the report stated. (more…)

Policy Is More Important Than Personnel

by Rep. Ron Paul

Donald Rumsfeld

President Bush has been under pressure to fire Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, whom many view as the architect of a failed approach in Iraq. Even many ardent war hawks are unhappy with the secretary for not having more troops on the ground in Iraq, and for conducting the war less aggressively than they would like.

But the issue is not who serves as secretary of defense, the issue is how, when, and why the United States uses military force. It makes no sense simply to replace Mr. Rumsfeld with someone else who holds the same view, namely that it’s the job of American soldiers and U.S. taxpayers to police the world. We should be debating the proper foreign policy for our country – utopian nation-building vs. the noninterventionism counseled by our Founding Fathers – rather than which individual is best suited to carry it out. Jewish Carpetbagger in Iraq Caught

by Jeff Davis

Carpetbagger

Every military conflict sees war profiteers and criminals racing to seize profits or to steal what they can. Time and time again, Jews have been the most numerous war profiteers. The Jewish media benefits from public interest in war. Jewish munition makers benefit from arm sales. Jewish international bankers profit by financing the debt that finances the wars. And there are always individual Jewish war profiteers, who break the rules –some of whom get caught.

A Jewish carpetbagger in Iraq has pleaded guilty to providing money, sex and designer watches to American officials in exchange for more than eight million dollars in “reconstruction” contracts. The amount of bribes and graft Philip Bloom paid to Iraqis is unstated but is believed to have been even more extensive than he gave to Americans–an estimated two million dollars in cash and goods and property. Haiti Election Bloodbath Goes to Round Two

Haiti

Anyone who thinks introducing democracy around the world is a good idea should take a good look at Haiti. This time it’s legislative elections that will determine if Rene Preval has enough support to govern the the open-air sewer which is his country. The parliamentary run-off election will determine whether Preval will have an ally in the Caribbean country’s next prime minister, who will be picked by parliament.

Preval is an alleged champion of the poor, a designation which is meaningless in a country where the staple fare for most Haitians is barbecued rat. He “won” a February 7 presidential election which was riddled by fraud, chaos, gunplay in the streets and at the polling stations, and large mountains of burning ballots being discovered on the Port Au Prince city trash dump. The head of the election commission fled to Florida in fear of his life from rampaging armed gangs. Haiti has been in complete free fall since former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide angered the neo-cons in Washington, who had him kidnapped and tossed on a plane to be exiled in South Africa. Was Condi Rice a Spy for Israel?

Bush kissing Condi

Anyone who gives military or national secrets to a foreign power outside of official government channels is guilty of espionage. Jonathan Pollard is in prison today for spying for Israel, should Condi Rice join him?

A recent news article reports “Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice leaked national defense information to a pro- Israel lobbyist in the same manner that landed a lower-level Pentagon official a 12-year prison sentence, the lobbyist’s lawyer said Friday.”

The AIPAC Israeli spy scandal just gets better and better. Now it looks like defense lawyers for AIPAC lobbyists and accused Mossad agents Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman will be calling none other than Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to the stand, and asking her to testify that she herself has repeatedly given classified American defense secrets to Israel, in the same manner that landed a lower-level neo-con Pentagon official a 12-year prison sentence. Let the AIPAC Spy Trial Begin

Why prosecuting Weissman and Rosen matters

by Grant F. Smith

Condi Rice at AIPAC

Judge T.S. Ellis III has offered a rare second opportunity to the Rosen and Weissman defense team. They again made their case that the indictment of the two former AIPAC lobbyists was “trampling on their 1st Amendment rights.” Although Judge Ellis established an August 2006 trial date, he continues to consider a motion to dismiss charges altogether.

In a similar March 2006, hearing, the defense concentrated on portraying the 1917 Espionage Act as fundamentally flawed and unconstitutional. The indictment charges Rosen and Weissman with violating sections of the Act by having “unlawful possession” of “information relating to the national defense.” Written in 1917 and never updated, the Espionage Act does not use the term “classified” when referring to national defense information. The law’s musty antiquity offers the defendants abundant openings for attack. (more…)

Will Neocon Lies Cause Another War?

by James Buchanan

Nuclear Explosion

A recent opinion article notes “It’s both fascinating and dismaying watching the manufactured ‘crisis’ over Iran reach new intensity each week. Iran poses no real military threat to anyone, but listening to the Bush Administration or the US media one would think that Tehran was about to unleash a nuclear holocaust on the world. What we are seeing is a rerun of the administration’s massive propaganda offensive that led to the invasion of Iraq. There is also no doubt that the Bush Administration has been planning a major air war against Iran. The highly respected American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh even claims the Bush Administration is considering the use of tactical nuclear weapons against Iran’s underground nuclear facilities.”

What exactly did Iran do to become the target of this campaign of slander? Did Iran invade its neighboring countries? No. The Iran-Iraq War was started by the Iraqis (with secret US support and encouragement). The US has been the biggest threat to world peace in recent decades invading one nation after another ever since Bush Senior became president. Panama, Iraq, Serbia and Somalia have all been targets of US military aggression. The action in Somalia originally started out as a food distribution program, but it changed into an assassination mission against a warlord there, which led to the “Blackhawk Down” fiasco. We can’t even pass out food without getting into a firefight. Maybe we should just keep our military at home, where it belongs. (more…)

Proof Bush Lies: The Mobile Weapons Lab Story

by Charles Coughlin

Anger Management Case

George Bush seems to think the American public is dumber than he is. Many of his lies are not even vaguely plausible. Anyone with average Internet skills could have found that the “mobile weapons labs” were nothing of the sort.

The Bush regime had the Pentagon hype the mobile weapons lab story for all it’s worth. One news article notes “the Pentagon team’s report… said the mobile facilities represented ‘the strongest evidence to date that Iraq was hiding a biological warfare program.’ ” How smart is it to make a claim that strong while other intelligence agencies are contradicting it? Karl Rove Will Be Indicted

by Charles Coughlin

Karl Rove

It’s long overdue for Karl Rove to go to prison. He should have at least been indicted on the same day as Scooter Libby, and the two of them deserved to be indicted years earlier. Both Rove and Libby have admitted that they leaked CIA agent Valerie Plame’s identity to the press. Exposing a CIA agent’s identity is an act of treason. This action was taken by the neocons to punish Ms. Plame’s husband, Joe Wilson, who released a report that undermined the neocon case for a war on Iraq.

Contrary to the spin from various talk show hosts, Ms. Plame was involved in a serious, ongoing CIA operation. She headed a fictitious company that was a front for intelligence gathering. The identity of this company was also exposed to the media. Agents working for her may have been arrested, tortured or killed. Naturally the neocons in DC won’t tell us the full extent of the damage done. They’ll cover that up for as long as they can. (more…)

Bubonic Plague in Los Angeles

by Jeff Davis

Plague Carrier

Along with the influx of Third World immigrants, mostly illegal, we are also experiencing an influx of exotic and usually disgusting and/or lethal diseases such as Dengue fever, malaria and West Nile virus. There have been rumors of airplanes secretly quarantined by the CDC for fear of the Ebola or Marburg virus. (Who knows what happens to the passengers and crew if the virus is confirmed…) Now our government’s complete failure to control this country’s borders has led to a real blast from the past–the Black Death itself!

A recent news article reports “A woman is in stable condition with bubonic plague, the first confirmed human case in Los Angeles County since 1984, health officials said Tuesday. The woman, who was not identified, was admitted to a hospital last Thursday with a fever, swollen lymph nodes and other symptoms.” Given the high percentage of Latinos in Los Angeles, it’s a good bet she brought the disease with her from some poor village in Mexico. The bubonic plague exists naturally in northern Mexico and the southwest deserts of the US. In the US an effort is usually made to control ground squirrels which carry the disease if it is detected. In Mexico, it’s doubtful if anything is done. (more…)
