Will Amnesty Lead to Rebellion?

People never rebel against a government as long as they can ignore it. As long as they have a reasonable expectation that they will be allowed to keep their homes and some of the money they earn and be allowed to live most of their lives in peace, they will remain quiet and tacitly allow a government -even a corrupt, increasingly evil one- to continue.
There is however always a breaking a point that leads to rebellion. In France, it was the flippant attitude by the aristocracy toward the suffering and starvation of the masses. In America, it was endless taxation and a condescending attitude by British aristocrats toward the colonies. In Germany in the 1920s, it was blundering incompetence by hack politicians combined with staggering unemployment and hyper-inflation. (more…)
