Can We Talk About Immigration Now?
by Jeff Davis

Seventeen US soldiers were killed this weekend in Iraq. An additional eleven of our soldiers were killed on Thursday. A recent news article reports “A U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter went down in northern Iraq, killing all 12 Americans believed to be aboard in the deadliest crash in nearly a year, while five U.S. Marines died in weekend attacks, the military said Sunday. The latest deaths followed an especially bloody week…” The only positive thing about the present quagmire in Iraq is that it unveils the total incompetency of the neocon regime under Bush. These folks haven’t got a clue how to get out of the Middle East snake pit. The GOP is getting increasingly desperate for some kind of emotional hook to hang their 2006 Congressional campaign on. It’s now pretty obvious that American soldiers are still going to be dying in the Iraqi desert by November of 2006. Given the highly negative public opinion about the Iraq War, it would be political suicide for the Republicans to launch the much-rumored war on Iran –a war which could involve the use of nuclear bombs. This means the increasingly desperate GOP will have to play the race card, and we may finally be allowed to TALK ABOUT IMMIGRATION.
Wow! Think of that! Our lords and masters may actually allow us to speak out loud about the fact that our once beloved country is turning into a Third World slum. Why, thank you, kind sirs, I’m sure! Or at least we can talk about it until after the 2006 election campaign and the GOP has garnered enough votes to keep them in power. Then the usual iron curtain of silence will no doubt fall once more. (more…)
