Civil War Begins in Iraq

Askariya Shrine Before
A recent news article reports “A powerful explosion shattered the golden dome of one of Iraq’s most revered Shiite shrines yesterday, setting off sectarian fury in cities and towns across Iraq. Protesting mobs took to the streets to chant for revenge and set fire to dozens of Sunni mosques. The violence seemed to push Iraq closer to all-out civil war than at any point in the three years since the U.S.-led overthrow of Saddam Hussein. At least 19 people were killed and, ominously, some Shiite leaders accused the United States of being partly to blame. The bombing of the Golden Mosque in Samarra, 60 miles north of Baghdad, left its famous golden dome in ruins…”

Askariya Shrine After
A bombing like this one, against the Askariya Shrine, a great Muslim cultural icon and a beautiful work of architecture by anyone’s standards, must have been done by criminals with a serious hatred for all Muslims. This atrocity was done almost certainly by the Israelis or CIA to inflame ethnic strife in Iraq.

At best this can be seen as a failure of the occupation authority to maintain order and protect Iraqi cultural monuments such as the great museum at Baghdad, which was looted shortly after the occupation. At worst, this incident could lead to a massive civil war with no end in sight and a big increase in casualties for American troops occupying Iraq.

The Israelis have a strong motive to provoke an Iraqi civil war. The Zionists want America in Iraq forever. George Bush has declared that once conditions become “stable” and the alleged Iraqi military is able to handle things, we will pull out. Under heavy pressure from a growing anti-war movement, Bush has already reduced our troop level from a maximum of 160,000 to about 138,000.

A headline on the website of the Hal Turner radio show proclaims “Israeli sub-contractor in Iraq implicated in bombing of 1200 year old mosque.” Also on that website: “(an) Israeli sub-contractor fingerprint fragment showed 11 point match to database fingerprint!!! Sub contractor is nowhere to be found as U.S. scrambles to stop escalating violence between Sunni and ShiIte factions. Experts claim Iraq heading into Civil War after this bombing…”

The Israelis have carried out numerous black operations in the past. The Israelis even attacked the US on at least two occasions, namely the Lavon Affair and the USS Liberty massacre. There were reports of Israeli agents at Abu Ghraib prison. It’s hard to imagine an Israeli sub-contractor operating in Iraq unless it was some secret Mossad operation. Can anyone imagine a concrete truck driving around Baghdad with “Goldfarb and Sons of Tel Aviv” painted on its side? Any Israeli in Iraq is likely to be either a special agent or intelligence officer.

In a desperate move, the Iraqi government has declared martial law in three provinces. One news article reports “Gunmen killed dozens of civilians Thursday and dumped their bodies in a ditch, as the government ordered a tough daytime curfew of Baghdad and three provinces to stem the sectarian violence that has left at least 114 dead since the bombing of a Shiite shrine. Seven U.S. soldiers died in a pair of roadside bombings north of the capital, and American military units in the Baghdad area were told to halt all but essential travel to avoid getting caught up in demonstrations or roadblocks. As the country careened to the brink of civil war, Iraqi state television announced an unusual daytime curfew, ordering people off the streets Friday in Baghdad and the nearby flashpoint provinces of Diyala, Babil and Salaheddin, where the shrine bombing took place. Such a sweeping daytime curfew indicated the depth of fear within the government that the crisis could touch off a Sunni-Shiite civil war. ‘This is the first time that I have heard politicians say they are worried about the outbreak of civil war,’ Kurdish elder statesman Mahmoud Othman told The Associated Press.”

These recent events in Iraq demonstate how difficult it is to maintain control and how easily widespread violence can break out. Our troops in Iraq are dying for the interests of Israel and Halliburton, not America. It is not our job to go on nation-building missions around the world or to replace dictatorships with democracies. The sooner we pull all our troops out of Iraq, the sooner our soldiers will stop dying for nothing.
